The solution
Model: Smart Data partnered with the client’s business analyst on a tightly scoped enhancement. A small team executed: two Smart Data software developers and a client-side business analyst. The architecture stayed in the .NET and React stack the existing application already used.
Key implementation highlights
- User preference center for service types giving providers direct control over which services they perform and the granularity of their participation
- Customizable notification preferences flexible enough to handle different practice patterns (immediate alerts, batched, by channel)
- SMS as a first-class notification channel for providers in clinical environments where phone-based notifications are more reliable than email
- API integrations to adjacent platforms so provider data flowing through the Provider Sourcing application synchronized automatically, eliminating duplicate entry
- Stack continuity with the existing .NET and React application to avoid disruptive rebuilds
- Tightly scoped delivery in 3.5 months from kickoff to production
Process note: Not every healthcare technology improvement needs a 24-month platform build. The highest-leverage move was a precise enhancement to an existing application: better preference controls, smarter notifications and cleaner API integrations between systems that already work.
The results
The enhancement delivered four operational improvements:
Gave providers direct control over which services they perform without requiring a support call
Matched notification preferences to actual practice patterns, including SMS for clinical environments
Eliminated duplicate manual data entry across adjacent internal platforms via API integrations
Improved data consistency across the client’s internal platforms by removing a known source of provider frustration
Conclusion: A tightly scoped enhancement to an existing application produced material improvements to the provider experience without a rebuild. The right small engagement, well-defined and well-focused, can deliver disproportionate value.
