Project Overview
Edoc, a Cincinnati-based pioneer in remote work solutions since 1997, delivers a suite of cloud-based tools to support virtual business operations. As the demand for remote healthcare solutions grew, Edoc needed to modernize its product ecosystem, including Onboard, Scriptus, Scriptus Mobile, and eSign, to better serve its clients and scale for future growth.
Smart Data engaged with Edoc to deliver major updates across all four platforms. Our work included multi-tenant architecture consolidation, new feature development, performance optimization, and regulatory compliance updates. Technologies used included Laravel, MySQL, Flutter, AWS, and native iOS development.
Project Challenge
Edoc’s platforms were increasingly limited by legacy architecture and missing functionality.
Onboard lacked proper multi-tenancy support and required enhanced role-based access and document version control.
Scriptus (web) needed a more intuitive admin interface, automated job assignment, and better migration support from legacy systems.
Scriptus Mobile had an unfinished iOS application requiring deployment-ready features for medical transcription.
eSign demanded a competitive, UETA-compliant platform that supported multiple tenants and customizable signature workflows.
The challenge was not only technical but operational: deliver scalable solutions that integrate with external systems while improving usability across a fully remote client base.
Project Approach
Smart Data deployed a cross-functional team to support each platform in parallel:
Edoc Onboard: Unified all clients onto a single server and added robust multi-tenancy and permission logic. We integrated CyberPay Online, implemented I-9 compliance, and added versioning for forms and documents.
Scriptus (Web): Enhanced job pool logic, automated assignments, improved user/admin experience, and migrated clients from a legacy system.
Scriptus Mobile App: Finalized the iOS app to support custom dictation, playback, transcription editing, and push notifications—delivering a mobile-first transcription experience.
Edoc eSign: Built a white-labeled, UETA-compliant e-signature platform with multi-signer workflows, automatic DNS routing per tenant, and user/role management capabilities.
Project Results
Smart Data delivered an end-to-end modernization of eDoc’s digital suite, enabling the company to remain a leader in healthcare remote services.
