SAP Fiori is a streamlined platform that allows users, businesses- to create easy-to-use applications, custom-made to suit their needs. Fiori is constantly upgraded by SAP and is set to replace SAP GUI as the main user interface for all of SAP’s software solutions.
Some features give Fiori an edge over GUIWith a flexible and easy-to-use interface, Fiori helps businesses segregate and organize their activities under mini-applications that can be accessed across a variety of devices. It is easier for employees to learn to work on it, saving time on training, as it is built around business processes. The streamlined workflows make it faster for tasks to get completed and increase employee productivity. In comparison to GUI, it is observed that Fiori results in a 64% decrease in the time taken to complete a task. Activities like sales approvals, inventory management & tracking, purchase requests, etc. have become less time-consuming through Fiori applications due to their mobile capabilities.
Another advantage of Fiori is that the Fiori launchpad, the main features, and all related apps can be activated within a day. In 2018, SAP introduced Rapid Activation, a feature that allows for the mass activation of Fiori Applications. Activating each Fiori application individually would result in higher implementation costs, and Rapid Activation enables businesses to activate the entire SAP Fiori Launchpad content required to perform a business role together. It is important to note that Rapid Activation for Fiori is supported from versions S/4 HANA 1709 FPS 01 and higher.
SAP recommends SAP Fiori to be deployed in an embedded setup- meaning, SAP Fiori front end server (FES) are to be installed together with the backend components on the same SAP S/4HANA on-premise system.
Here are some prerequisites required for Rapid Activation:
● Already have SAP S/4HANA, SAP Fiori Frontend server in embedded mode and SAP Fiori for SAP HANA installed
● Validated FQDN system parameters for your hosts/ports
● Configured your ICM Server ports
● Checked if your ABAP Shared Memory is enough to run task lists
● Checked if your Programme Execution Area (PXA) is sufficient to conduct Enterprise Search
● Verify if your security authorization tables have been initialized correctly
Before starting Rapid Activation, here are some steps needed to be performed:
● Activate Embedded Analytics
In SAP GUI, launch the task list SAP_BW_SETUP_INITIAL_S4HANA. This task list activated the embedded analytics engine.
Estimated time of completion: 40 minutes
● Activate Enterprise Search
Run the task list SAP_ESH_INITIAL_SETUP_WRK_CLIENT to activate enterprise search. This task takes the longest to get done, but it can be executed in the background, in parallel to other tasks, or after all the tasks are completed.Estimated time of completion: 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours, depending on the amount of data to be indexed
● Activate ABAP Gateway for SAP Fiori:
Run the task list SAP_GW_FIORI_ERP_ONE_CLNT_SETUP to run this task. This task list includes setting up system aliases, RFC destinations, and activating needed services on your ABAP Gateway as a foundation for launching the SAP Fiori launchpad and apps.
Estimated time of completion: 20 minutes
● Activate SAP Launchpad and main Launchpad features:
Run the tasklist SAP_FIORI_FOUNDATION_S4. This sets up SAP Fiori launchpad and main shared features, such as notifications, user assistant, navigation behaviors, etc.
Now that these steps are completed, Rapid Activation can be commenced:
● Step 1: Scope and select business roles from the Fiori Apps library from a list of approximately 414 business roles. It is recommended that a batch of no more than 10 to 12 roles is selected in one go, for lesser processing time and efficient monitoring of the activation process.
● Step 2: Activate selected applications via Rapid Activation
Enter task list SAP_FIORI_CONTENT_ACTIVATION to initiate the Rapid Activation process.
This task list is used to activate SAP Business Roles and their content, which includes SAP Fiori apps, classic UIs, app-to-app navigations, and so on. The goal is to provide roles that are ready for exploration. Roles can be activated over time, such as when implementing UX over a multi-phase roadmap.
Estimated time of completing: 1- 1.5 hours, including test runs and troubleshooting
● Optional step: Generate test users for SAP Business Roles
An additional task in the Rapid Activation task list is to “Create users with generated business roles,” which generates test users to make it easy to explore SAP Fiori.
This will help you understand Fiori from the perspective of a business user of each business role.
It will also enable you to explore important apps, features, and personalization options available in each role.
You will also be able to review the default layout and understand the changes in app behavior when it is used by multiple users.
Estimated time of completion: No extra time is required as it can be done as a part of the Rapid Activation process
In total, the whole process of the configuration should take about 3 to 6 hours to complete. This is subject to a lot of factors, like the volume of data to be indexed, or the challenges that arise during the process. However, all these variables still withstanding, the entire process would certainly take less than a day to complete.
During this process, it is also important to troubleshoot and resolve errors and issues raised during task lists. A lot of issues and their resolutions can be found on the Notes that SAP regularly releases about its solutions. If you can’t find a resolution to your issue, you can raise an SAP incident alert to get further assistance. Upon resolution, find the incomplete task list and resume them from the point where they failed.
Common types of resolutions include:
● SAP Notes that need to be applied to correct an OData service
● OData services that need to be activated manually in transaction
● ICF nodes that need to be activated manually
